Two Sentenced in Fatal Mugging

After a plea deal in January, two Albany men are going to state prison for their roles in a fatal robbery from September 2012, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s office.

Bernard White (left), 24, and Uquan Bean (right), 22, were each sentenced before Judge Thomas Breslin in Albany County Supreme Court on Tuesday morning. White gets 20 years (5 years of Post Release Supervision) and Bean gets 14 years (5 years of Post Release Supervision), authorities said. The both pled guilty to one count of robbery (Class B Violent Felony) back on January 21.

On September 13, 2012 at 9:30 p.m., near Ontario St. in Albany, White, Bean, along with Antwan Uptegrow, 36, and Shaquan Oliver, 23, also from Albany, attempted to rob Alex Duncan, 35, in front of a neighborhood business. During the mugging, Duncan was shot in the chest and later died at Albany Medical Center.
Uptegrow previously pled guilty to one count of Robbery (1st Degree, Class-B Violent Felony), and faces up to 12 years in State Prison (5 years of Post Release Supervision) when he is sentenced on March 15.

Oliver previously pleaded guilty to one count of Robbery (1st Degree, Class-B Violent Felony) and faces 15 years in State Prison (5 years of Post Release Supervision) when sentenced on March 11. This will be served consecutive to an unrelated 13-year State Prison sentence stemming from his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon (2nd Degree, Class-C Violent Felony), for a total of 28 years in State Prison.
