Carrie Underwood is tapping her faith as she responds to critics of her "Sound of Music" performance.

She references the Bible in a tweet that reads, quote, "Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25."

Underwood has received less than favorable reviews for her performance in NBC's presentation of "The Sound of Music Live!" Thursday night.

The majority of reviewers have praised her singing as well as her gutsy decision to take on the iconic role of Maria von Trapp in the first place, but agree that her acting fell short.  However, some of the tweets from the general public have been particularly harsh.

Underwood's performance has also been criticized by a cast member from the original 1965 movie, as well as one of Maria von Trapp's great grandchildren.
